The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery

The Cardiothoracic Surgery program at UNC began in 1952 and has grown over the years as diagnostic techniques, surgical knowledge, and postoperative care have evolved and improved. The division is committed to excellence in the care of patients, rigorous education of residents and medical students, and innovative research. We perform more than 900 major cardiothoracic procedures each year that include the entire spectrum of thoracic and cardiovascular disease. At UNC, we are privileged to be involved with multiple clinical and laboratory research programs. Ultimately, UNC Cardiothoracic Surgery represents a comprehensive and collaboratively-oriented group striving to provide the most advanced and cutting-edge therapies to our patients.
