Since its creation in 1952, the Division of Neurosurgery at the University of North Carolina has excelled in patient care, resident education, and has contributed to the advancement of the field of Neurosurgery.

Matthew G. Ewend, MD, has accepted the position of Division Chief effective December, 2004. Dr.Ewend is also the Director of Neuro-Oncology.

At the core of the division is our ACGME-approved neurosurgery residency training program. This program provides comprehensive training in all areas of neurosurgery.

We are located in the beautiful, temperate Piedmont region of North Carolina on the campus of the oldest public university in the United States.
