1. Select Start, Windows Update
2. Select green arrow to Scan for updates
3. Follow online instructions, including Restarting computer

Windows Update Options

1. Automatic Install - This option automatically downloads and installs critical patches and updates from Microsoft and then presents a prompt for the user to Restart the PC.  Settings don’t take effect until after restart.

a. Windows XP (Figure 5)

i. Right-click My Computer

ii. Select Properties

iii. Select Automatic Updates tab

iv. Enter check-mark for option to “Keep my computer up to date.”

v. Choose third option, to “Automatically download the updates and install them…”

vi. Specify schedule for downloads

b. Windows 2000 (Figure 6)

i. Start, Settings, Control Panel, Automatic Updates

ii. Enter check-mark for option to “Keep my computer up to date.”

iii. Choose third option, to “Automatically download the updates and install them…”
