IT Support Policies

Dept. of Surgery

 

 

I.      Supported

A.      Hardware

1.       University-owned (departmentally-tagged) computer systems located in the office

2.       Individually owned systems purchased thru the CCI and used as the primary office computer

1.       PDAs:Palm OS and Windows Mobile NOTE:PDAs MUST have a power-on password set and/or use a password protection application, such as Password+ from Dataviz.

2.       Printers and scanners

B.      Software

1.       Windows 2000/XP operating systems (Vista is not yet supported)

2.       Network configuration for connections to the Internet, e-mail, and Surgery servers.

3.       Applications – installation, configuration and support

a.       Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)

b.       E-mail clients – current version of Mozilla Thunderbird

c.       Internet browsers – current versions of Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer 6

d.       WebCIS (Clinical Information System)

e.       WebPACS

f.         ChartScript

g.       Hospital Sessions: SMS, A2K

h.       ADP/AIS applications

i.         Calendaring: Microsoft Outlook

j.         Virus protection: Norton AntiVirus

 

I.                     Unsupported

A.      Hardware

1.       Individually owned systems, with the exception of CCI computers defined in A2 above

2.       University owned systems located off-campus

3.       Systems that do not meet minimum hardware specifications (currently set at P3-1000 processors, but subject to periodic update)

4.       Systems and peripherals that were purchased external to the recommendation of the Surgery IT Support Staff.

5.       Servers other than those already existing in the Surgery domain (i.e., Surgery-a,Surgery-b, etc)

B.      Software

1.       No departmental support for any applications outside of those listed above.  [Note: the independent installation of unsupported software applications by the user entails risks of computer failures and incompatibilities with production applications.]

2.       No departmental support for applications listed above on non-university owned systems

C.      Licensure

1.       Individuals are responsible for complying with licensing agreements for applications outside of those listed, above

2.       Individuals are responsible for complying with licensing agreements for applications listed above on non-university owned systems

 

II.                   Security

A.      The Surgery IT Support Staff will maintain administrator login privileges on all computers connecting to the Surgery network

B.      The department of Surgery subscribes to the School of Medicine HIPAA policy (http://www.med.unc.edu/ois/hipaa/)

C.      The department of Surgery subscribes to the University’s ATN Security Policy (http://help.unc.edu/ , Security, ATN Security Policy)

D.      Violations of these policies may result in the loss of network connectivity and/or account restrictions
