Norton AntiVirus (NAV) software (Corporate Edition 7.50) is the department standard for virus protection. It's installed and running on your PC if you've got a yellow shield icon in the system tray (on the bottom right corner of your screen, next to the time).
Upon installation, your NAV software is configured to update your virus daily, and to scan your hard drive for viruses weekly. Scans and virus definition updates will happen automatically. You can minimize the pop up windows if they appear while you're working and continue without interruption to your work. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL/ABORT THESE SCHEDULED UPDATES AND SCANS. To determine the date of your virus definition file (i.e., when it was most recently updated), open NAV by double-clicking the yellow shield icon. The default screen, Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition, displays the Virus Definition File version and date. To perform a manual update, select the LiveUpdate button.
Virus protection is a critical component in safeguarding the integrity of our data. If your machine becomes infected, there is the very real risk of infecting others. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the functionality of your virus protection software, please don't hesitate to contact Systems Support at 843-7090.
However, if you receive notice of a virus threat, please take a few moments to investigate the authenticity of the threat BEFORE contacting us or forwarding the notice to contacts. Many threats, particularly those that encourage you to warn everyone you know if the imminent failure of their hard drive, are hoaxes. The virus encyclopedia at the Symantec web site (http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html) is an excellent source of virus information.
